It is that beloved time of night for me where I'm not quite tired enough to go to bed but I know I should. I would read (that always puts me to sleep) but I wouldn't remember much of what I read. This week has been good, my life is getting back to its laid back, I've got nothing to do mode. I was working on the audio for a short film for a long time, now that it is finished I can get back to the things that matter to me...hanging out. Over the weekend I took a stroll down memory lane, in a good way, very often strolls down memory lane for me happen when I'm depressed. I hung out with my old college roommate and his wife on Friday night and then another friend from college and his wife on Sunday. The time spent with them was a reminder of how I was in college, productive. I'm still productive now but not to the extent that I was then. In my defense I don't have as much spare time now. I do have some new songs on deck for the first time in a couple years which is kind of exciting, we'll see how that goes. If I can find my guitar music then I'll start practicing again unfortunately, due to the fact that my room is the size of a nice closet, my music is in a box somewhere in the void. Also, I've decided that I'm going to give martial arts another go. To catch everyone up to speed, I took martial arts as a kid, Tang Soo Do to be precise (it's Korean and very similar to Tae Kwon Do) and much more recently studied Tai Chi. I enjoyed the Tai Chi but gave it up because classes were only one day a week and I need more structure than that. If I get the chance I would love to pick it back up again but that is for another time. The top contenders for this round are Aikido, Jiu Jitsu (from Japan not the ever popular Brazilian variant) and Krav Maga. I'm not going to lie, part of the interest in Aikido comes from my obsession with Steven Seagal movies. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is something that I wouldn't mind learning one day (whenever I go back to short hair, or at least shorter) the style straight from Japan is not really a competitive art, it's more for killing honestly. Unfortunately, it is not easy to find instruction in it. That brings us to Krav Maga, for those of you that don't know this is the close quarter combat system that is used by the Israeli Defense Force. This is less of a typical martial art in that it is self defense, there are no forms and it is not pretty to watch. It is extremely effective however, for real life situations. There is another whole blog about my thoughts on ancient martial arts vs. mma vs. self defense that is brewing in my head so prepare yourselves for that gem, it will be coming soon.
On a happy note, we haven't been sucked into a black hole created from the Hadron Collider yet. Today they fired that bad boy up just to make sure that it works, apparently they are not going to collide particles for at least a few months. I do not honestly believe that the collider will cause the end of the world, but it's just crazy enough that it could seriously mess up stuff if the fears of some are realized. I did hear an interesting theory said in jest by one of my roommates or a coworker (I honestly don't remember) that if the collider does doom us all that it will be a slow doom that won't really end the world until 2012, this way we knock out two theories about the end of the world at the same time. If you don't know about 2012, it's the year that the Mayan calendar ends and the world according to some.
It's time to wrap up this blog, it has gone on much longer than I intended and I really do have to get some sleep. I hope you all are sleeping well or will sleep well whenever that time comes.
Peace and Love
